World Cup 2018 Group B:

Portugal vs. Spain

  • Date: Friday, June 15
  • Betting Odds: Spain -103 vs Portugal +334; Draw +248

Portugal: Real Madrid’s superstar striker, Cristiano Ronaldo, doesn’t have much time left if he wants to win a World Cup with his country although adding this title to his accomplishments would be his crown jewel.

Portugal has what it takes to win a World Cup as was shown when they defeated France for the 2016 European Championship. And they did it without Ronaldo. The mix of experience and youth with players of the likes of Pepe, Joao Moutinho, and Andre Silva makes this team a dangerous opponent that’s sure to reach far into the tournament.

Spain: The Spanish squad went into a tailspin after claiming victory in the 2010 World Cup and the Euro Cup in 2012 with early exits both in Brazil 2014 and the Euro Championship in 2016.

However, this is a renewed team with a mix of grizzled veterans and young talent. In fact, Spain has talent in spades with the likes of Sergio Ramos, Gerard Pique, and Andres Iniesta who all have years of experience and newcomers such as Alvaro Morata, Marco Asencio, and Isco Alarcon.

It was this team that crushed Argentina 6-1 in a friendly match that brought their winning streak to 18. This positions Spain among the favorites to win the World Cup at a +600 moneyline.

Portugal vs Spain Pick and Prediction: This is one of the most anticipated games in the group stage. The defending European champion Portugal is the underdog in the game but any team that has Ronaldo is always dangerous. The game will end in a 1-1 draw.

Morocco vs. Iran

  • Date: Friday, June 15
  • Betting Odds: Morocco +140 vs Iran 264; Draw +199

Morocco: Reaching the World Cup has been a long time coming for Morocco after 20 years. But this team has plenty of talent in its ranks with players such as Ajax midfielder Hakim Ziyech, Nabil Dirar, and Younes Belhanda.

Coach Herve Renard conceived a strategy that has worked well for the Moroccan squad that’s based on a solid defense and taking fast advantage of scoring opportunities. Even if nobody expects that Morocco will make it far into the competition, they could gain at least a few wins.

Iran: The first team to qualify out of Asia was Iran. Over two rounds and 18 qualifiers, Iran was undefeated while not conceding a goal in nine games which is motivation enough to last them at least through their game against Morocco.

Even if Iran did not win any games in their passage through the 2014 World Cup, the current edition will be their fifth appearance which gives them enough experience to know what they can expect.

Morocco vs Iran Pick and Prediction: Morocco will lock down on defense as is characteristic of their style. Iran is also strong on defense so the game might be won from the odd scoring opportunity. Morocco will win 1-0.
